Consultancy Overview

Independent Technical Advisory to Mitigate Solar Project Uncertainty

In modern solar power project development, the majority of technical recommendations received by project sponsors come from parties with an underlying commercial interest—the EPC contractor seeking to minimize installation costs, the equipment distributor promoting exclusive brand stock, or the installer sizing arrays to maximize upfront contract values. This creates inherent exposure to design compromises, equipment mismatch, and lifetime energy yield deficits.

IISE’s Technical Advisory & Engineering Consultancy functions as an independent technical buffer. We analyze project feasibility, review complex electrical schematics, evaluate contractor equipment specifications, and audit operating solar assets with strict technical impartiality.

Preliminary Advice vs Detailed Engineering

Our technical advisory establishes engineering boundary conditions, techno-commercial feasibility, and independent design verification based on supplied documentation. It is structured to guide investment, procurement, and risk-mitigation decisions. It does not replace statutory civil/structural drawings stamped by chartered engineers or statutory DISCOM inspection filings unless explicitly agreed under a licensed scope.

Data Rigor & Validated Assumptions

Solar generation models and financial returns are highly sensitive to initial assumptions. We critically review Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI), Global Tilted Irradiance (GTI), module soiling rates, thermal derating coefficients, inverter clipping ratios, and degradation trajectories to prevent optimistic forecasts from distorting financial models.

Commercial Advisory Scope

IISE's consultancy practice is an independent B2B engineering service scoped entirely around specific industrial, commercial, and utility solar assets. While informed by the deep technical expertise of our training faculty, consultancy engagements are custom-scoped commercial contracts—completely distinct from student admissions or educational courses.

Battery Storage Support

Energy Storage & Hybrid System Engineering Advisory

Specialized engineering review for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid solar configurations. We focus on preliminary sizing validation, system integration compatibility, and operational boundary checks.

Scope of BESS Technical Advisory

  • Preliminary Battery Capacity Assessment: Evaluating required kWh/MWh capacity against site load duration curves and solar production profiles.
  • Critical vs Non-Critical Backup Profiling: Segregating essential loads to optimize energy storage CAPEX and prevent premature battery depletion.
  • System Architecture Evaluation: Reviewing DC-coupled vs AC-coupled integration topologies for specific duty cycle requirements.
  • PCS & Inverter Compatibility: Verifying Power Conversion System (PCS) response times, bidirectional charging capabilities, and grid-forming functionalities.
  • Operational Profile Analysis: Assessing peak demand shaving, Time-of-Day (ToD) tariff arbitrage, captive self-consumption, and diesel offset feasibility.
  • Safety & Protection Review: Reviewing thermal management considerations, DC disconnect coordination, and battery room ventilation guidance.

Engineering Boundary Clarification

Preliminary Sizing vs Complete Engineering: Sizing advisory establishes capacity range and integration feasibility. It does not constitute complete battery container engineering, BMS firmware programming, or fire suppression design, which require specialized OEM and statutory CEIG sign-offs.

Beyond Rated Capacity: Sizing a BESS system requires far more than matching kWh ratings. Crucial parameters include Continuous C-rate, maximum depth of discharge (DoD), ambient temperature derating, round-trip efficiency (RTE), and expected cycle life under local Indian climatic conditions.

The following illustrative scenarios demonstrate how independent technical review identifies design vulnerabilities, resolves underperformance, and protects capital investment.

Scenario 01

500 kWp C&I Rooftop EPC Due Diligence

Project Context: A manufacturing unit received 3 disparate EPC bids featuring conflicting DC/AC ratios and module technologies.
Technical Challenge: Reconciling conflicting yield forecasts and verifying whether string sizing matched inverter MPPT windows during summer ambient peaks.

Scenario 02

1.2 MWp Industrial Plant Underperformance Audit

Project Context: An operational solar plant consistently generated 14% below budgeted PVSyst projections over an 18-month period.
Technical Challenge: Determining whether shortfall was caused by local solar irradiance deficits, severe soiling, inverter clipping, or cell degradation.
Assessment Outcome: Isolated localized inverter thermal derating caused by inadequate electrical room airflow and identified string mismatch, producing an actionable rectification schedule that recovered lost yield.
Scenario 03

250 kWp Hospital Rooftop Feasibility & Net Metering

Project Context: A multi-speciality healthcare facility sought to offset high peak tariffs while guaranteeing power quality for sensitive equipment.
Technical Challenge: Evaluating complex roof structures and ensuring zero reverse power flow into existing diesel generator sets during grid outages.
Assessment Outcome: Right-sized the installation to 220 kWp with fast-acting DG-PV controller integration, preventing generator reverse power trips and simplifying DISCOM net metering liaison.
*Scenarios are presented for illustrative technical context based on typical engineering engagements. Client identities and proprietary data are strictly confidential.

Engineering Judgment, Not a Sales Pitch

Most technical advice a business receives about solar, battery or EV infrastructure comes from someone with a financial stake in the recommendation — the EPC firm quoting the job, the equipment distributor pushing a specific brand, or the installer sizing the system to close a sale. IISE's Business Services consultancy team works differently: our recommendations come from the same engineering faculty who train IISE's diploma and certificate students, with no commission tied to which vendor, EPC firm or equipment brand you eventually choose.

Whether you're a commercial rooftop owner evaluating your first solar investment, an MSME sizing a battery system for load-shifting, or an EPC firm that needs an independent second opinion on a design before sign-off, our consultancy engagements are scoped around your project — not a course curriculum.

Why Businesses Choose IISE

IISE has spent over a decade training the engineers who go on to design, install and commission solar, battery and EV projects across India — read more about IISE and the philosophy behind why businesses and students train with us. That same faculty forms the core of our consultancy team, which means the advice you get is grounded in what actually works on a live installation, not just on a spec sheet.

Because we don't sell panels, inverters or EPC contracts, our incentive is aligned with yours: a project that performs as modelled, not a project that closes a sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell or install the solar/battery/EV systems you recommend?+
No. IISE's consultancy is independent of any equipment brand or EPC contractor. We're paid for our recommendation, not for what you buy as a result of it — that's the whole point of an independent technical advisor.
How is this different from getting a free quote from an EPC company?+
An EPC quote is priced to win the job. Our feasibility study and DPR are priced to give you an accurate, vendor-neutral basis for comparing EPC quotes — including catching under-sized systems, optimistic generation estimates, or scope gaps before you sign a contract.
Can you review a system that's already been designed by our EPC contractor?+
Yes — this is one of our most common engagements. We review the proposed design against your load profile and site conditions and flag any concerns before installation begins. If BESS or hybrid integration is involved, our Battery Systems specialists review that portion specifically.
Do you help with net metering and DISCOM paperwork?+
Yes, this is bundled into our feasibility and DPR engagements, and available as a standalone service if you already have a design and just need help with approvals and DISCOM coordination.
What does a consultancy engagement cost?+
Pricing depends on project scale and scope — a rooftop feasibility study is priced differently from a multi-site EV charging infrastructure plan. Submit an inquiry with your project details and we'll scope it with you directly.
