Course Modules — Step-by-Step SketchUp Mastery
SketchUp Interface and Solar Workflow Orientation
Get up and running fast. This module covers the SketchUp workspace, navigation tools, drawing axes, and solar-specific settings every engineer needs to configure from day one. You will set up your template file with the correct geo-location, shadow settings, and unit system for Indian project sites.
Drawing and Modeling Rooftop Structures
Learn to trace rooftop boundaries from Google Maps, import AutoCAD DWG files, and build accurate 3D roof models. You will model flat roofs, sloped roofs, and complex multi-level rooftops — the three most common structures in Indian residential and commercial solar projects.
Solar Panel Placement, Spacing and Array Layout
This is the core technical module. You will place and array solar panel components with precise inter-row spacing, correct azimuth orientation, and tilt angles. The module covers both flat-roof ballasted systems and pitched-roof flush-mount layouts. Pair this with Helioscope software training to cross-validate your layout with yield simulations.
Shadow Analysis and Sun-Path Simulation
Shadow losses are the most common source of underperformance in rooftop solar projects in India. This module teaches you to use SketchUp's built-in shadow engine to simulate shading at any time of day, any date, and any location across India. You will generate shadow study outputs for DISCOM approval packages.
Terrain Modeling and Ground-Mount Site Design
Ground-mount solar farms require slope analysis, terrain contouring, access road placement, and fence perimeter design. You will import elevation data, build 3D terrain models using SketchUp's Sandbox tools, and design ground-mount arrays that account for real-world land topography — critical for projects in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.
Client Presentations and Project Documentation Exports
A technically perfect model only wins the project if the client understands it. This final module covers SketchUp's LayOut tool for creating professional presentation sheets — plan views, elevation drawings, 3D renders, and annotated site layouts.
